He was born in Warren, Arkansas, on December 30, 1932.

In 1950, he graduated from Monticello High School, Monticello, Arkansas.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 during the Korean Conflict and his tour of duty ended in 1955.
During the next six years from 1955 through 1961, he was employed by the Leland Equipment Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also, he attended night school during this time.
Zora Jane Watson and he were married in 1958. Two years later, in 1960, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma City.
During 1961 and 1962, he was employed as a Nondestructive Test Engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Center, Tullahoma, Tennessee. This period of employment was followed by a twelve year stint at Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama, beginning in 1962 and ending in 1974. There he was employed as an Aerospace Engineer with Chrysler Corporation and Teledyne-Brown Engineering.
Charles was baptized into Christ at Brock's Chapel church of Christ 1968.
He served as a Deacon and Elder at Brock's Chapel 1969-1974, and then moved to the preacher's position for the Cleveland, Alabama church of Christ 1974-1976.
He has been member of the church at Holly Pond since the beginning in 1977 and was the preacher for the church at Holly Pond 1977-1980.
Since 1980, he has worked for contractors and at self-employed trucking. At present driving for McGriff Transportation, Inc., Cullman, Alabama.
Charles and Jane have two daughters, one son, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Charles says that, "Next to the church of our Lord, their spiritual welfare is our greatest concern."
